Bucket List Check Off: Rattlesnake Roundup and Writing
One of my favorite and most exhilarating bucket list activities has been the Rattlesnake Roundup in Ringgold Texas, just a few miles where I grew up.
This was a local event sponsored every year by local cattle ranchers who want to have rattlesnakes removed on their ranches where they raise cattle.
Rattlesnake bites are the main contributor of loss of cattle annually.
So it behooves the cattle ranchers (pun intended) to open their property to the public to come collect rattlesnakes each year.
Now keep in mind, this one I participated in was not as big as the annual Sweetwater Texas Rattlesnake Roundup seen in the video above, but hey…rattlesnakes are rattlesnakes no matter where they are!
At the time of my participation in this local rattlesnake roundup, I was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, in my home town of Wichita Falls Tx.
Being young and “full of life”, I was at a time in my life where I was experiencing what it meant to make a bucket list and do a check off on each item listed.
It just so happened that I had always heard about the thrills and “close calls” from others who had gone on an actual rattlesnake rounds up, so I thought I would add that to my bucket list and go for it!
Little did I know that this rattlesnake roundup would be a bigger event than I thought n the first place, for several reasons:
- There are some die-hard thrill seekers out there in the sticks turning over every single rock to find a rattlesnake.
- If you get there to the rattlesnake roundup later in the day as I did, every single rock you look at has already been turned over! @#%&!
- The event sponsor makes a huge profit from the rattlesnakes roundup from vendors and the harvest of rattlesnakes for their venom extracted, their meat, their heads, and their skins!
- The rattlesnake roundup event itself attracts all kinds of other snake-oriented attractions and vendor, like an All You Can Eat Rattlesnake Diner, A Snake Handlers Expo, and A Snake Charmer who kisses a King Cobra on its head!
These people know how to make money at anything!
This is a prime example of how anyone can take a simple problem like rattlesnakes control for cattle ranchers and turn it into a money making venture!
Recently, I decided to check off another bucket list item.
This bucket list item was channeling my creative writing skills into a way of making money online.
Admittedly, my bucket list item of channeling my creative writing skills into a way of making money online may not be as dangerous as a rattlesnake roundup, it sure showed me how to take a simple bucket list item and turn it into a stream of income for me!
